Description

This is a militia staff officer’s sword, brass mounted with helmet head pommel, chain guard and carved reeded bone grip. The crossguard is Mameluke style with five-pointed star and acanthus leaf detail. The cross quillons have bud finials. The straight double-edged blade with central fuller is etched with floral and military motifs. The scabbard is brass with engraved leaf motifs on the obverse side. The reverse side is plain brass. The sword is in overall excellent condition with some dents in the sheath. It is signed “Ames” on the ricasso. Overall length is 38 ½ inches. Blade length is 31 ¼ inches.
