The Fascinating Journey of an Amazing Antique Collector
Sixty years ago, William (Bill) Dykes started his career in collecting antique coins. His fascination for items that harbor a history only grew stronger when he was in high school. With considerable attention to detail and artistry, he won a wood-working competition and was asked to restore antique furniture for the principal and teachers. The architectural wonders of the classic ages have captivated his mind. A few years later, his father gave him an antique revolver which had sparked his interest in collecting and dealing in antique firearms. When Bill entered college, he had learned about trading. He learned to make money from his passion, and it had helped him with his tuition. As the years went by, his interest for other antique collection continued to grow. His love had taken him to Asia, Europe, and America where he had uncovered many rare pieces that had made him one of the most notable figures in the antique industry.
In 1969, William Dykes retired as an engineer and decided to deal with his antique business full-time. A year later, he opened his first antique shop in Dallas where he had not only displayed antique pieces for collectors; he also offered restoration services. From the notable John Walton and Albert Sack, Bill acquired a vast experience working with dealers and museum. In 1983, Bill expanded to Maine where he displayed his very own William Dykes Antiques and later established the Wiscasset Antiques Center.
