Description

This American silver hilted sword is often referred to as the Baltimore and/or Philadelphia eagle head sword. The eagle head was made as early as the 1770’s and in the later years of the Revolutionary War it had more widespread popularity. The construction of this sword would place it in the earlier period and in the Revolutionary War. The Demsey marked blades are of an English or Irish early import and were found on several early American silver hilted swords. The sword is in excellent condition with silver chain complete and intact. The fluted and reeded bone grip has one small crack on the reverse side. The blade has been cleaned and shows a silver and grey finish. The overall length is 33 inches with a blade of 26 ½ inches.
