Description

This silver mounted small sword is from a school of four or five known swords of similar construction and with the silversmith touch mark of “GW”. The touch mark as can be seen is an incomplete mark but with physical examination is attributed to the maker of the other swords. The “GW” touch mark for years has been listed as an unrecorded silversmith. Refer to “Silver Mounted Swords” by Daniel D. Hartzler, pg 94,95 and 96 for a photographic study of the swords. This sword has been photographed for Dan Hartzler’s forthcoming book on the American Revolutionary War. Dan’s new book will include new information in revealing the “GW” maker. The sword is in excellent condition with a nice colichemarde blade, 32 ¼ inches long. Overall the sword is 39 inches. The blade has nice decoration in the upper portion. Several small swords of this style were known to be carried by officers in the American Revolutionary War.
