Description

This Revolutionary War dagger is a relic from the Saratoga Battle Field. It has a 10 ½ inch long Damascus blade and is 15 ½ inches overall. It has a coarsely checkered bone handle. The knife has an early button with the word “Saratoga” attached to it to identify where it was found. The knife was found by a farmer in the early 20th century and I am the third owner. The knife verbally has a more specific location, Freeman Farm. We will attach a paper tag stating this for future reference. Since there were Hessian soldiers at Saratoga, it has been speculated that this knife was probably lost by one of the Hessian solders. However, the coars unrefined checkering of the handle might lead one to believe it is an American knife. Whatever the case, it is a wonderful 18th century relic of the American Revolution.
