Description

This pattern naval cutlass came about in England in the late 18th century and were copied here in America. Due to the condition of most of these cutlasses, having seen heavy use in the sea environment, it is difficult to ascribe a maker. The sword is 33 ½ inches overall with a 28 ½ inch x 1 ½ inch blade. There are no marks visible anywhere. This sword could have been used aboard U.S. Navy ships or privateers during the War of 1812. The figure eight guard and corncob handle show heavy corrosion.
