Description
This spontoon is a two piece construction with socket being formed with blade and the cross guard hand forged on to the base of the blade. This is a crude spontoon with the S shaped cross guard. This spontoon was dug, reportedly in Maine. It appears to have had post war usage. It is a blacksmith made, wartime spontoon. It measures 9.75 inches overall with an approximately 5 inch blade and 4 inch cross guard. Refer to Battle Weapons of the American Revolution, by Neumann 52-54 PAA
