Description

This is a rare and exceptional all metal Scottish pistol. The pistol is made by Isaac Bissel and is signed on the lock “Bissel”. The pistol has the distinctive ram’s horn butt which includes a removable touch-hole pick. This pistol is one of the rare few that have been found with the “RHR” engraving on the top of the barrel. The Royal Highland Regiment (the 42nd Regiment), was also named the “Black Watch”.
In 1757 a warrant allowed the Scottish pistol for the Highland Regiments. The Scottish Regiment enlisted men were the only soldiers in the British army to be issued pistols during the 18th century. This Revolutionary War pistol also has the Private Tower proof marks.
The 42nd Regiment had a long extensive service in America during the French and Indian War period and the American Revolution. Space does not allow to elaborate on the service and accomplishments of this very famous regiment in America.
The Scottish “RHR” pistol in the NRA Museum is restored. The above pistol is in excellent condition with all original parts and has a smooth steel surface and what appears to be an original flint. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the rarest Revolutionary War pistols with documented regimental use.
