Description
This is a silk and metallic thread embroidery on silk measuring 24 inches x 17 ½ inches. The banner is “O” Battery dated 1814 of the “Royal Hoase Artillery”, The Rocket Troop”. The lime green wreath is striped with all of the battle honors with the latest being “South Africa 9012” and “South Africa 1899 1900”. The banner incorporates both a cannon and a rocket and other military emblems in the center. In research the “Royal Horse Artillery” was separated from the “Royal Artillery” in 1793 with two batallions and it is reported that rockets were used as early as 1805 and possibly earlier. This is a wonderful early piece of historical fabric in excellent condition with only minor freying around the edges. It has been removed from its stretcher for easy shipment and can be backed with a good natural linen before re-stretching. It has bright, beautiful colors.
