18TH CENTURY AMERICAN CARVED POWDER HORN WITH MARINE EARLY LIGHTHOUSE DECORATION FOUND IN MAINE
This is a highly unusual 18th century or early 19th century American Powder Horn. The horn is carved in the style of the French and Indian War and American Revolutionary War Period. The date, 1836 October 30th and initials WB may be a later addition to the horn.
The horn is completely scrimshawed , full coverage and has a nice mellow light yellow color.
The style of scrimshaw is typical of sailor art and is carved lightly or shallowly.
The carving contains early lighthouses, the name J. Blagdel, initials WB and initials JB, Ships at anchor, sailing ships, villages, breaching whales and floral vines and flowers.The horn is in excellent condition with two small holes.
LOA - 15.5 INCHES AND APPROX. 3 INCH DIAMETER AT PLUG END AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED AS REPRESENTED
