Description
Newly discovered American Windsor continuous-arm chair. The chair is identical to the chair from the Israel Sack collection illustrated in The Windsor Style In America by Charles Santore. The chair is completely original and retains approximately 95% of its old or original green paint.Where paint losses are visible there are traces of another lighter and thinner color (light blue-grey) which may be a primer coat. There is a crack in the continuous-arm where the bow bends to form the arm,a common fracture found on this style chair. The chair is branded "I. SPROSEN"who was working in New York from 1789 to 1798.This form of Windsor ,The continuous-arm ,is considered an original American
design and most Windsors in the 18th century were painted green. This chair has just surfaced from a home in coastal Maine and is being offered for the first time.AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED AS REPRESENTED
