Description
This is a 17th or very early 18th century London Blunderbuss. It was made by Edward Nicholson and is marked “Ed Nicholson” on the lock. His mark is also on the barrel along with London proof marks. Edward I was free of Gunmakers Co. in 1675, proof piece 1677, master in 1697. The blunderbuss measures 35 inches overall and is fitted with a 19 ¼ inch three-stage brass barrel with a 1 ½ inch bore. The dog is missing from the lock plate. This blunderbuss recently came from a coastal Maine home along with a pair of pistols and a naval cutlass. It is in untouched attic condition. Overall it has a very pleasing mellow patina.
